What the School Readiness Check looks at

School readiness is about much more than knowing the alphabet. The children who settle in best can separate confidently, focus, follow instructions, get along with others and manage their feelings. This free tool shows how ready your child is across those skills — and how to build the rest through play. It's a gentle guide, not a pass-or-fail test.

How the free check works

  1. Answer a few quick questions about your child — about two minutes.
  2. Get your snapshot and the areas worth watching.
  3. Unlock your personalised tips — practical steps, texted to you.

Frequently asked questions

What is school readiness, really?

It's the mix of social, emotional, physical and thinking skills that help a child settle and learn at school — like separating from you, focusing, following instructions, getting along with others and managing feelings. Academics matter far less than these at the start.

My child scored lower — are they behind?

No. This isn't a pass-or-fail test, and children develop at very different rates. A lower score simply points to a few skills to build playfully — and, if you want, a chat with their teacher.

What ages is it for?

Parents of children roughly 2 to 6 years, as school or nursery approaches.

Why do you ask for my mobile number?

We show your snapshot straight away. We ask for a number only to text your personalised tips and, if you choose, help you continue in the free ProParents app. We never share your number.

This is a general readiness guide for awareness, not a formal assessment or pass-or-fail test. Children develop at their own pace. If you have concerns, speak with your child's teacher or paediatrician.
