Indian Kids' Meal Plan
A balanced sample day of everyday Indian meals for your child — tuned for the essentials that build body and brain: iron, protein, brain fats and calcium. Pick an age and veg or non-veg, then print it or save as a PDF.
A balanced day
Picky eater? Sneak nutrition into foods they already accept — ground nuts in milk, dal in khichdi, grated veg in parathas. Keep offering variety without pressure.
How to use this plan
This is a sample day, not a rulebook. Use it to see the shape of a balanced Indian plate for your child's age, then adapt to what your family eats and what your child accepts. The goal across the day is simple: iron at most meals, a protein at every meal, some brain fats (nuts/seeds/fish), calcium foods, and mostly whole grains and millets instead of maida and white rice.
The five things a child's plate needs
- Iron — energy & focus: dal, ragi, green sabzi, dates, jaggery, egg/meat (add a little vitamin C to absorb more).
- Protein — growth: dal, curd/paneer, egg, nuts, chana, meat.
- Brain fats (omega-3) — mood & learning: walnut, almond, flaxseed, til, fish.
- Calcium — bones: milk, curd, paneer, ragi, til.
- Whole grains & millets — steady energy & fibre: ragi, jowar, bajra, whole wheat.
